Whilst surfing the net I found - paul.mansfield1@virginnet.co.uk. He gave brief details of the following Gauberts who had been reported in the above newspapers – 1777 02 Jun Peter Gaubert, jeweller of Lyme Regis whose apprentice had eloped 1778 20 Jul Peter Gaubert, jeweller of Lyme Regis whose apprentice had eloped I contacted Paul who advised that the newspapers normally gave more coverage to the runaway than to the master. He had no further information but suggested that Exeter Library might hold an index of the original newspaper. You will recall that Peter and Ann Waight are recorded as having Ann in 1773 at Lyme Regis. The newspaper report shows that Peter was residing in the area and that Ann’s birth was not whilst the parents were ‘en passant’. |
