In 1984 I contacted the English Silver Department at the famous auction house of Sotheby's in London . I had inquired as to whether any items of gold or silver bearing the marks of any GAUBERT had passed through their salesroom. Although they couldn’t provide that information, coincidentally they had just completed a draft biography on Joseph Lindner. The research provided some interesting details. The following is a reproduction of the text on the GAUBERTs.

1. Stephen GAUBERT, formerly of 8, Carlisle Street, Soho, moved in c.1833 to 51, Berwick Street, Oxford Street. JOHN GAUBERT and ANN GAUBERT succeeded him at this address. They were described as jewellers upon the dissolution of their partnership on 30.11.1836. Thereafter John continued alone, listed in 1841 as a ' working jeweller '. In 1852 the firm of GAUBERT and KOGL are listed as jewellers at 51, Berwick Street where, in the 1851 Census Return, Hannah KOGL aged 32,is described as a widow and jeweller. She is recorded as being born at Newstead, Nottinghamshire, and together with Joseph Lindner, aged 31 who is described as unmarried and a journeyman jeweller born in  Austria . This couple is subsequently recorded at the same address on 02.12.1853 where Joseph is listed as a jeweller until 1856.

2. Stephen GAUBERT (? senior ), a son of Peter GAUBERT (born 17.12.1748), and described as a chaser of Litchfield Street , is noted to have effected an insurance policy with the Sun on 10.04.1776 (Guildhall Library MS 11936 / 246 - no. 367761 ). Heal notes him or Stephen GAUBERT (? junior) at this address as a goldsmith 1796 - 1800. Other possibly connected individuals are as follows. John thanked Stephen George GAUBERT of Harpenden for the following information - the following were bound to Stephen GAUBERT (? junior) -

son William Peter GAUBERT on 19.03.1811
son Richard GAUBERT on 01.07.1818

3. Edward GAUBERT, working jeweller, son of Peter GAUBERT and brother of Stephen GAUBERT ( ? junior) who effected an insurance policy with The Hand - In - Hand on 26.03.1816, renewed in 1825, from 6, Great Shire Lane, Temple Bar, workshop behind (Guildhall Library MS 8676 / 2no. 89614), and another with the Sun on 04.02.1829 from 6, Serles Place, Carey Street, on 41 and 42, Cross Street, Islington (Guildhall Library MS11936 / 517 no. 1086465); and William Peter GAUBERT, a son of Stephen GAUBERT ( ? senior), a jeweller of Brewer Street, and his wife Mary, who are noted at the times of the baptisms of their children at St. James, Piccadilly :
