Ann was born in Ormond Street (this was later to become the famous Great Ormond Street), the daughter of John & Mary and baptised at St Andrews church in Holborn, London on the 10th April 1708. No Huguenot church for her ! Well that is a surprise. Since Peter Gaubert would attend the Westminster Huguenot School some 40 years plus later on, maybe her family had integrated into English society much quicker than his. Maybe Peter's schooling was a matter of financial opportunity for his parents. A declining congregation seeking new blood for its own rejuvenation ? Whatever the reasons, although separated by two generations, Ann and Peter, together with his family, both went to the same church.
Ormond Street takes its name from the Dukes of Ormond. James Butler Ormond (1665-1745). He was made Lord Lieutenant of Ireland 1662–69 and 1677–85. He was the grandson of James Butler, 12th earl and 1st Duke of Ormond. James led William 111's Life Guards at The Battle of The Boyne in 1690.
Louis and Etienne Gaubert also fought at The Boyne.
A Huguenot association with Ormond can be shown when Peter Drenlincourt, a French Huguenot, came to Ireland to act as chaplain to the Duke of Ormond. He was appointed Precentor of Christ Church, Dublin, in 1681.
St Andrews Church, Holborn was also the family church for Peter & Ann Gaubert later in the 18th century
1769 Stephen, son of Peter & Ann, was born 4th Jan 1769, at Baldwins Gardens (see Bible Extracts), Leather Lane, Holborn, and baptised at St. Andrews, Holborn
1770 Elizabeth, the daughter of Peter & Ann, born at Baldwins Gardens, Leather Lane, Holborn, was christened on the 24th June 1770 at St Andrews, Holborn
1772 George, the son of Peter & Ann, christened on the 16th Feb 1772 at St Andrews, Holborn
1785 Edward, the son of Peter & Ann, was born at John Street, Grays Inn Lane, of Tash Street, London and was christened on 11th July 1785 at St Andrews, Holborn
1788 Hannah Waight, the daughter of Peter & Ann, was born at Fisher Street, Red Lion Square, Holborn and was christened on the 23rd March 1788 at St Andrews, Holborn
The geography of addresses shows how close Ann and her family lived to where Peter and his family would later also live. In 1782 Ann Charlotte, the daughter of Peter & Ann, was born in 1782 at Fitters (Fetter) Lane, Holborn (Fetter Lane is a corruption of the medieval 'Fewter Lane' - meaning 'Idler's Lane')
Here are some maps, some showing Ormond Street some 40 years after Ann's birth, and others of the Holborn area where the proximity of the known earliest addresses is clear.
The above map shows St Andrews church on Holborn, between Shoe Lane to the east and Fleet Market to the west
1714, Powis House in Ormond Street. Ann may have known this property. The earlier mansion had been burned down 'by rascalous French servants'

Below is a map of Ormond Street rents in 1752 ( I hoped in vain for a trace of Gauberts). Below this map is an enlarged version in 3 vertical panels of Ormond Street. Below these panels are 6 enlarged images (3 per side) of the two side panels showing plots, owners and tenants |
