Look
for the red 'Gaubert'
sign of Robert Joseph Gaubert c. 1870s-90s overhanging the street and a
white sunblind (1st floor level, about one inch left of centre). This
photo was taken from a library book cover that my father was reading.
Awaking from an afternoon nap, he suddenly noticed the sign,
thankfully. The original painting is in the collection of Kensington
& Chelsea Council who allowed Dad to make some copies.
Both above 2 photos are of 151, Chase Side, Southgate - the home of Esther Teresa Gwendoline Keville Gaubert (daughter of Sidney Gaubert & Ann Keville) in 1967, the year she died. It was a nurses hostel and retirement home bequeathed by Sir Thomas Lipton the tea magnate. |
2, Avenue Road, Southgate near Chase Side, thought to be in about 1890. The road wasn't surfaced but rolled gravel and there were footpaths and gas lamps. The street was numbered in about 1935. When Annie Dove died she had appointed Esther Teresa Gwendoline Keville Gaubert (daughter of Sidney Gaubert & Ann Keville) to be her executor. The solicitor J Frank Measures was Peter Robinson's uncle. My grateful thanks for the photo and text to Peter Robinson who once lived in this road. |

2, Avenue Road, 2012 - where Alfred Edward Gaubert (1863-1900), son of Alfred Gaubert & Ann Peacock once lived. He first appears at this address in 1898 on the electoral register and died here in 1900. Now called Swiss Villa but then was Avenue Cottage |
31, Abbotsford Avenue, West Green, Tottenham. Agnes Gabella Gaubert (Stewart), widow of Alfred Edward (died Jan 1900), dressmaker was recorded as a 'boarder', the occupant of two rooms here in the 1901 census. |
Saint Antony's School, Lancester Road, Forest Gate, London E7. My first school where nuns forced beetroot down me. |
